A Tooth Too Damaged for a Filling

If your dentist has mentioned that a tooth has more damage than a filling can handle — but not quite enough to need a full crown — there's a metal-free option in between. Dr. Bentler or Dr. Simmons can repair the damaged part of the tooth while leaving more of your natural, healthy tooth in place.

Signs You Should Bring It Up

  • A tooth has a cavity or crack too large for a standard filling
  • You want to preserve as much natural tooth as possible
  • You'd prefer a metal-free, tooth-colored repair over a full crown
  • An old filling has failed and the tooth needs more support

How We Evaluate at The Holistic Dental Center

Dr. Bentler or Dr. Simmons examines the damaged tooth and takes an impression to see exactly how much of the tooth needs covering. That impression becomes the basis for your custom onlay, designed to fit your bite and match your surrounding teeth.

What Happens Next

Treatment usually takes two visits — one to prepare the tooth and one to bond the finished onlay in place. You may notice mild sensitivity for a day or two after the first visit, which fades quickly. If a damaged tooth has you wondering about your options, call us at (509) 325-2051.
